Glossary of Machine Vision Terms

Field of View (FOV): The physical area viewed by the camera
Focal Length: Parallel light transmitted transmitted into a lens converges to a point on the optical axis. This is the focal point of the lens. The distance between the principle point in the optical system and the focal point is referred to as the focal length. A lens with a short focal length has a wider angle of view, whereas a long focal length lens provides a more magnified view of the part.
Working Distance (WD): The distance between the lens and the part being imaged.
Depth of Field: The range of distance from the lens that remains in focus.
